Phosphorus is found in large amounts in beans, peas, and meat. Following is a list of foods to include in your diet in order to gain adequate amounts of phosphorus.
Although not required in large amounts, phosphorus is essential to carry out various functions in the body. Along with calcium, it is required to strengthen bones and teeth. It is also essential for growth and repair of cells in the body. It helps in maintaining proper heart health.

Wheat germ/bran, chicken, and egg yolk contain the highest amounts of phosphorus.

Foods With Low Phosphorus

Now, on the contrary, there are people who are advised to consume foods that contain less amounts of phosphorus, for health reasons. They can include the following fruits and vegetables in their diet.

Phosphorus Dosage

The dosage for children is between 500-1000 mg. As it is required in children for growth and development of healthy bones and teeth, it is required in higher amounts. On the other hand, adults require less amounts of phosphorus than children, i.e., around 700 mg. Pregnant and breastfeeding women require 700-1000 mg of phosphorus.

Chances of suffering from deficiency are rare, but, it can occur due to malnutrition, severe starvation, etc. It can also occur if a person consumes large amounts of alcohol or suffers from any disease. Alcohol extracts the mineral present in the bones, leading to a deficiency.
It should also be noted that excess phosphorus is bad for health, as it can get accumulated in the kidneys, leading to kidney diseases. Similarly, those already suffering from kidney diseases or undergoing dialysis should have a low phosphorus diet.
It is advisable to consult a doctor in order to know your recommended dosage of phosphorus, and plan your diet accordingly. Lastly, note that, having a balanced diet helps in gaining the required amounts of vitamins and minerals. Take care!
