The need to reduce appetite arises because when you have an increased appetite, you eat more and the fat storage of the body increases. Moreover, it is quite difficult to follow a strict diet regime. A few helpful tips are given below:
Tips #1: Include lots of fiber rich foods in your daily diet as they give a sense of fullness all through the day. They also supply you with a good amount of energy. Some common foods with high fiber content are brown rice, whole wheat bread, oatmeal, fresh fruits and leafy vegetables, beans, etc.
Tips #2: Increase your protein intake. This will control your appetite to a great extent. You should include more and more lean protein in your snacks and meals. Some good sources of lean protein are poultry, fish, lean meat, egg white, tofu, low fat dairy products, etc.
Tips #3: Drink plenty of water which means that you must take at least 8 glasses of water daily. After you get up in the morning, the first thing you should take in empty stomach is a glass of plain water. You should also have a glass of water half an hour before each and every meal throughout the day.
Water does not suppress the appetite as such but will leave behind very little space inside the stomach for the food that you eat and thus the chances of overeating becomes less. A glass of water after meals will help you to stay full for a longer time. Most importantly, if you drink water after regular intervals, your stomach remains full and you do not feel the urge to eat.
Tips #4: Green tea is one such natural substance that can curb the appetite really well and help you in weight loss. Research studies have found that the caffeine component of green tea suppresses the appetite naturally for a short span of time and eases the cravings for foods.
On the other hand, its polyphenol components boost up the rate of metabolism and burn off extra calories. Therefore, you must drink green tea daily to decrease appetite.
Tips #5: Keep a watch on the pace of eating. When you eat in a hurry, your digestive system does not get the scope to communicate with the brain that your stomach is already full. As a result, there are chances that you may end up consuming more food than what you actually need. Therefore, to control overeating, you must eat slowly.
Take enough time to chew each bite of food properly. Take a pause in between every two bites. If you eat at a slower pace, your body feels satisfied and gets a signal that you are done and your appetite decreases naturally.
Tips #6: Exercise regularly. Keep aside at least half an hour everyday for exercising. This will keep you physically active and energetic which in turn will decrease the appetite. Another important change that exercising brings about in your mind is that it shifts your focus from food cravings and diverts it towards getting a fitter and healthier body.
You must avoid all such foods that have empty calories in them. It includes junk foods, processed foods, refined sugar, etc. Such calories are digested fast and do not keep the stomach full for long. Thus they tend to increase your appetite.
