The main function of liver in our bodies is to eliminate wastes and toxins, which can otherwise buildup and lead to problems such as indigestion, high blood pressure, irritable bowel syndrome, high cholesterol, amongst others. That's why, to avoid all such and many other health problems, it is very important that the liver is kept well functional.
However, over time, the liver may lose some of its ability to perform as the very wastes it removes from the body, may deposit in it and make it slow. This is where natural liver cleansing, using juices of fruits and vegetables, comes in.

As mentioned earlier, liver eliminates toxins from the body. Besides this, it helps in digestion of food. It also plays a crucial role in maintaining the body's immunity.
By having lemon water, health problems and conditions, such as obesity, skin disease, high cholesterol and poor digestion, can be kept at bay. A person who takes liver cleansing, feels much fitter, energetic and healthy.
● When performing liver cleansing with lemon, give up on all solid food. The only foods that you should take are organic juices of fruits and vegetables. This will ensure that no pesticide enters your body when the cleansing process is going on.
● Organic apple juice is what is recommended by most experts when undertaking liver cleanse. The apple juice should be taken after every two hours. However, care should be taken that no more than two liters of apple juice is consumed in a day.
● Purified water should be consumed as much as possible, continuously, throughout the day. Keeping a bottle of water with you, at all times, will ensure that you drink lots of water.
● Immediately before going to bed, there are two preparations that you should have. Here's the recipe for the first one - Take one glass of purified water, add juice of a large lemon as well as one-fourth cup of olive oil in it. Stir the mixture and have it.
The second recipe is to take a cup of water and add two tablespoons of Epsom salts in it. Stir till the salt dissolves and then have the solution.
● Follow this routine for a couple of days. Minimum one day will do you good too, however, if you can stretch more, it will be even better.
● After you are done with the cleansing regimen, the day you start eating again, start with juices. Follow this up by fruits and boiled vegetables as these are easy on the stomach and only by evening, start eating normally.
Caution : When you are undertaking this diet of lemon water for detoxifying liver, you might experience stomach pain, diarrhea and a change in the appearance of your stools. There would be stone-like stools, which in reality are deposits of fat and cholesterol.
All these after effects are considered normal and are experienced as the body is eliminating the wastes and toxins deposited in the liver for long. So a person undertaking liver cleansing need not worry about them.
Although, this method is mostly harmless, yet it would be better if you consult a physician if you are planning to continue with this diet for more than two days. There have been instances in which people have experienced certain side effects such as headaches, change in the heartbeat, anemia, etc. after undertaking liver cleansing.
To avoid these and to enjoy all the benefits of lemon juice for your body, it is recommended that you consult a doctor before initiating this diet.
