Before we begin talking about lecithin granules, their benefits, and side effects, let's understand what lecithin is. Lecithin is naturally produced by the liver, and is a part of the mucus layer in the intestines. It contains other important components that make it essential for the development of cell membranes.
Lecithin granules are mainly derived from soy beans, and are also known as soy lecithin granules. These granules are also made from components of egg whites. As such, soy lecithin granules are a better option for vegans and vegetarians. This natural supplement offers several health benefits, but can also cause certain side effects when used inappropriately.

Benefits

Usually, the need to consume lecithin granules arises from the fact that we do not get enough lecithin in our diet. As such, doctors may prescribe a certain amount on a daily basis, to benefit you in any of theĀ given areas.

Lowering Cholesterol Levels

One of the most important benefits of lecithin is that it helps you lower your high cholesterol levels. As a source of polyunsaturated fats, when consumed while following a proper cholesterol-free diet, lecithin granules can help in this regard. As such, it is a great tool to prevent heart problems, and maintain heart health.
Not everyone has benefited from this aspect, and some have experienced little or no effect on their cholesterol levels when they have consumed these.

Healthy Liver Function

Lecithin granules enable healthy liver function, in that they help it to deal with alcohol related cirrhosis and with breaking down fat cells.

Weight Loss

Because of its ability to break down fat cells in the liver, lecithin granules aid weight loss greatly. However, you must ensure that you follow a low fat diet combined with a good amount of regular exercise for it to really benefit you.

Preventing Alzheimer's Disease

Lecithin granules contain acetylcholine, an important neurotransmitter that is found lacking in those suffering from Alzheimer's disease, dementia, and amnesia. However, this has not been proven yet. On the other hand, it has been found that the consumption of lecithin granules has significantly improved the memory of people who had problems in this area.

Side Effects

Just because they are natural, it does not mean lecithin granules can be consumed in any amount. When the dosage exceeds its prescribed amount, one of the side effects it is likely to cause is weight gain. Apart from this, it may cause nausea, vomiting, bad breath, low blood pressure, dizziness, increased saliva production, and body odor.
Some people have also reported allergic reactions. Some other side effects may include stomach problems and headache and body pain.
In order to avoid the aforementioned side effects, it is important to consume them in the right amount. To learn about the appropriate dosage, speak to your doctor before you start consumption.
It is important for your doctor to know what you are consuming, apart from the medication prescribed by her/him, as it is possible that these lecithin granules may react inappropriately with the medication.
