Making it at Home

Soy milk is used as a tasty alternative to other conventional types of milk. Its benefits increase its popularity even further. You can easily find commercial brands of unsweetened (plain) and salted (flavored) soy milk in the market. The procedure of preparing it at home is extremely easy.
It is also a great option to avoid the dangers that are imminent due to the contamination and artificial flavoring that is present in the commercial varieties of this milk.
Ingredients
  • Whole soybeans
  • Water
  • Cheesecloth
  • Blender
  • Stove
Procedure
  • First, wash the soybeans thoroughly with clean water, and then crack them a bit before soaking them in a pot of water for about 6 to 8 hours.
  • After this time has passed, remove the bean hulls and flush all the loose ones with water. Cracking the beans eases the process of removing the hulls.
  • The un-cracked beans need to be soaked for about 12 to 16 hours.
  • Heat the wet beans for about two minutes in order to reduce their distinct flavor, which will otherwise be present in the milk.
  • You can place the wet beans in the microwave for about 2 minutes, and then grind them.
  • For this process, take a blender or soy milk machine and add water to it. 125 g soybeans produce about 1 liter of milk.
  • Blend the beans well, and then strain the mixture with the help of a cheesecloth.
  • Once you are done, you need to heat the milk well by boiling it for about 5 to 7 minutes. Strain it once again, and store it in the refrigerator. You can use it for the next three days.
You can also flavor the milk by adding salt, soy sauce, sugar, cinnamon, or fruit flavored sauces to it. The matter which is left on the cheesecloth can be used for making bread, or even as cattle feed.
