Making Ginger Tea from Scratch

For making ginger tea from scratch, you need just a handful of ingredients. Try to get hold of fresh young ginger, as this gives the tea a stronger and more intense flavor and aroma. Brewing tea properly is very important to get the best flavors.
Ingredients
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 inch ginger piece
  • 1 ½ tablespoon tea leaves
  • Honey
  • 1 fresh lime
Method

To make this ginger tea recipe, you need to first peel the ginger. Next slice the ginger into thin slices and keep it aside. Meanwhile bring the 4 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan. When the water starts to boil add the ginger slices into the boiling water. Lower the flame and let the ginger steep in the hot water for 8 - 10 minutes.
Grate the zest of the lime and add to the boiling water. Next place the tea leaves in the teapot. Strain the boiling water through a strainer and discard the ginger slices and lemon zest. Pour this ginger and lime infused water into the teapot and close the lid. After one minute, serve the tea in tea cups. You can squeeze in a few drops of lime juice for more flavor. If you prefer your ginger root tea sweet add a spoonful of honey.

Making Ginger Tea with Ground Ginger

Ginger tea should ideally be made with fresh ginger. But when you are out of fresh ginger, you can use ground ginger instead.
Ingredients
  • 4 cups water
  • ¾ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 ½ tablespoon tea leaves
  • Honey
  • 1 fresh lime
Method

Bring the 4 cups of water to a boil in a small saucepan, when the water starts boiling, add the ground ginger into the boiling water and let it steep for 2 - 3 minutes. In a teapot, add the tea leaves and then pour in the boiling water through a strainer. Close the lid of the teapot. After a minute, pour the tea into tea cups and add honey and a few drops of fresh lime.
