Those who usually drink 5-6 ounces (one glass) of wine receive around 125-150 calories. According to the USDA National Nutrient Database, an ounce of wine contains on an average 25 calories.

  • Wine calories depend upon the alcohol content of wine; which may vary from 10% to 14%. Higher the alcohol content, higher will be the calories in a glass of wine.
  • Normally, red wines have less calories than white wines.
  • 'Dessert wines' which are comparatively sweeter, usually have more calories than other wines.
  • Bitter wines comparatively contain less calories.
  • High calorie snacks that are consumed along with the drink are more responsible for weight gain than the calorie content of the wine.
