Homemade Protein Bars

Need some filling snacks that are healthy too? Consider making protein bars at home. These bars that are prepared without preservatives are safer than those sold in the market.
All of us have a fair idea about the need of proteins in proper functioning of the body. Protein is essential for every cell to function normally. Be it the movement of cells, message signaling, biochemical reactions, or nutrient transportation, it is required in every step. It is present in each and every part of the body, including the skin, hair, muscles, glands, and organs.
One of the best alternatives for protein supplement is consuming homemade protein bars, which are easy to make, tasty, and nutritious at the same time. Making these at home will be cheaper than buying them from the stores. They can be eaten as snacks to provide quick energy and also to promote muscle buildup during weight training.
These bars can be made with or without milk, according to personal needs. Bars without milk are ideal for people having lactose intolerance. You can add a lot of dried fruits and nuts as per your taste to these recipes. And to add variety, you can make use of different-flavored protein boosters, as well.

Recipe #1

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups oatmeal
  • 2¼ tablespoons whey protein powder
  • 2 cups peanut butter
  • 1¾ cups raw honey
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • ½ cup almond slivers
  • Raisins and dried fruits
Directions:
In a microwave-safe bowl, add the peanut butter and raw honey. Microwave for 1 minute, and stir well. Take another bowl and mix the dry ingredients―oatmeal, whey protein, cinnamon, and almond slivers together. Pour the peanut butter and honey concoction into the dry mixture.
Combine them well using a wooden spatula or your hands. Spread the protien bar base in a 9x13-inch pan evenly. Refrigerate it for about an hour. Cut it into bar-sized chunks, wrap each of the bars with a plastic sheet, and store them the refrigerator.

Recipe #2

Ingredients:
  • 4 scoops chocolate protein powder
  • 3½ cups quick oats
  • 1½ cups powdered nonfat milk
  • 2 egg whites (beaten)
  • 1 cup sugar-free pancake syrup
  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • ¼ cup natural applesauce
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 325 °F. Add the protein powder, oats, milk, and vanilla to a large mixing bowl. In another bowl, combine the liquid ingredients, namely, egg whites, pancake syrup, orange juice, and applesauce. Stir this liquid concoction into the protein powder mixture.
Mix till you get a consistently thick, cookie-like dough. Spread this over a baking sheet after greasing it with a nonstick spray. Bake the batter in the oven till the edges turn crispy and slightly brown. Cut it into bars, and store them in an airtight container.
