Diarrhea is a frustrating and socially frowned upon condition to be afflicted with. For the unfortunate people who are stricken by diarrhea, intense abdominal pain also accompanies the passing of motions. Diarrhea refers to an increase in the frequency of passing stools, along with the stools becoming extremely watery in nature.
Many people commonly refer to, and identify this condition as 'loose motions'. The primary reason for the conception of this condition is the consumption of foods that tend to cause diarrhea.
Can overeating cause diarrhea? Yes. Very much so. Diarrhea is not just limited to eating certain foods, but overconsumption of those foods as well. Eating these foods upsets the digestive system and forces a person to pass stools over and over again. This can really leave one incapacitated and affect the very quality of life.

List of Foods That Cause Diarrhea

Of the many food items that we consume regularly, there are some that are distinctly known to be diarrhea-causing foods. For some people, consuming even a small portion of these items can cause diarrhea; whereas for others, overeating these foods is the cause. You must be cautious in your consumption of the given foods that may lead to diarrhea.

Dairy Products

Dairy products are great sources of protein and calcium for the human body, but for people who are lactose intolerant, these products can end up causing a lot of unwanted trouble in the form of digestion problems and flatulence.
Individuals who are aware of their lactose intolerance must regulate their consumption of dairy products, and if possible, should stay away from them completely.

Red Meat

Even though red meat provides a lot of benefits for the body, these are heavy foods. In the sense that, they are difficult to digest. In such a scenario, overconsumption of these foods, most often, leads to a stomach upset, and in severe cases, even diarrhea.
Many people are not able to consume even small portions of the meat without suffering from this condition. Which is why it becomes important to study one's body and understand how it responds to this food. And if it does react negatively, it is best to avoid it, or control the intake. Eating white meat and fish instead of red meat is therefore recommended.

Alcohol

One of the serious effects of diarrhea is the dehydration that accompanies it. A lot of liquids get released from the body, and as a result, a person may experience severe weakness and dehydration.
The consumption of alcohol while already suffering from a bout of diarrhea is known to worsen the condition. Moreover, alcohol also dehydrates the body further, so you need to be extremely stingy in your consumption of alcohol while suffering from diarrhea.

Caffeine

Another liquid that can drastically affect your bowel movements is coffee.
Caffeine is known to cause a variety of effects on the bowels of a person, and sometimes this can lead to some negative repercussions―like a bout of diarrhea. Caffeine is a known diuretic, and this implies that, like alcohol, caffeine will also add to the dehydration of the body. So, it should be consumed with caution.

Excessive Fibers

Food items with excessive fiber content are also common foods that can cause diarrhea. Fibers enhance the bowel movements, but consuming too much fiber is an equally bad thing. For people suffering from constipation, fibers are recommended in order to relieve the bowel activity. However, this needs to be done in small quantities to avoid diarrhea.

Spices

Spicy food is another common example of foods that can cause diarrhea. The spices and oil in these dishes upsets the natural balance of the digestive organs and exerts a lot of pressure on them. This in turn leads to diarrhea.
Now that we know the basic diarrhea-causing foods, we have an elementary idea of the kind of foods to avoid. Even though avoiding all these foods is not easy, one must aim at controlling their consumption. At least for the time period that one has an upset stomach.
