Long Island Iced Tea happens to be one of many legendary cocktails that is hugely popular all over the world. This drink is not a type of iced tea, or for that matter, any other type of tea. It is in fact, a cocktail, and quite a strong one at that!
Although there are many variants of this particular alcoholic drink, the most common recipe makes use of the 'famous five', i.e. vodka, gin, rum, tequila, and triple sec. Coca Cola and lemon juice are the other ingredients which make up this cocktail.

Calorie Count

  • Vodka (1 oz.) - 65
  • Tequila (1 oz.) - 65
  • Gin (1 oz.) - 66
  • Rum (1 oz.) - 66
  • Triple sec (1 oz.) - 100
When you add up all the calories you get a total of 362. But wait, that's not all. We still have to add the Coke and the lemon juice, right?
Now the amount of Coke that you mix is relative and it differs from person to person. The usual norm is to pour just enough Coke to make the color of the drink change from that of lemonade to that of a regular iced tea.
Assuming that amount to be approximately 60 ml., that makes for an additional 25-odd calories. Add a dash of lemon juice and sugar syrup, and you end up with a fully-loaded 400 calorie cocktail.
If you are out of lime, you can always substitute it using the juice of grapefruit. This will slightly alter the taste of the cocktail. Remember, to add in lots of ice, and garnish the drink with slices of lime. Pour it in tall glasses and enjoy the drink.
This cocktail is considered to be very strong as it contains a mixture of 5 different types of alcohol. So, it has been advised to go easy on the quantity of this when you go out.
This is because, those with a low tolerance to alcohol, may get drunk faster than others, making you call short your night of fun. Always have a small snack before you start drinking, as it will help you stay sober for longer, thus aiding you in enjoying your night out.
If you are allergic to alcohol, it has been advised to completely avoid drinking this cocktail. Remember, never drink and drive, for your and others safety.
