It is actually the ingredients present in black tea, that make it so useful to us. Caffeine is one such ingredient, which is considered to be a great stimulant and energizer. It was in 1827, that the caffeine content in black tea got noticed.
Before that, the substance was known as thiene and it's effects as well as properties were identical to caffeine. Later, the term 'thiene' became outdated and 'caffeine' gained popularity.
Caffeine is present in tea as well as coffee, and it is known for its stimulating effect on mind as well as the body. However, excessive caffeine in body can lead to many side effects such as insomnia, headaches, frequent urination, etc. Caffeine in black tea compared to that in coffee is safer because of its varying amounts.
Its content in black tea is around 40-45 mg per 8 oz, whereas on the other hand, in brewed coffee it is 65-120 mg and in instant coffee it is 65-70 mg per 8 oz. So, to stay away from the side effects of excessive caffeine, black tea is generally considered as a safer option over coffee.
However, ensure that you do not exceed the intake beyond 3 cups in a day, otherwise, you may experience excessive caffeine side effects.
Although the caffeine content in black tea is less as compared to coffee, it is found to be even lesser in green tea (around 18-20 mg/8 oz) and white tea (around 12-15 mg/8 oz). Nevertheless, the decision for whether to opt for coffee, black tea, or any other tea types lies with you.
