Almonds are known for their healthy attributes, and no one can argue that it is probably the healthiest of all nuts. Tear drop in shape, with a coarse outer skin in an orange-y brown color, these nuts serve their purpose well in more ways than one.
It is a very flavorful addition to any meal, dessert dish or drink, making it a much favored option when cooking with nuts. It contains good fats and other essential elements that make it as healthy as it is known to those who consume almonds on a day-to-day basis.
Milk these days are put through a stripping process called 'pasteurization', losing out on important ingredients that make it a well-rounded drink. What we get as the end product is not really a wholesome food source, but one that lacks nutritional value. Even those that have been labeled as organic or skimmed, are either too watery or tasteless.
To benefit from milk that hasn't been altered or put through a complex process before consumption, I suggest you start making almond milk at home. It is easy to make, cost saving, healthy and can be added with your very own ingredients to give it natural sweetness and flavor.

Homemade Almond Milk Recipe

To make home-made almond milk is fairly simple and incredibly fuss free. Don't worry about what is needed, since all the ingredients you need are just water and almond. For flavor and sweetness, keep on hand 2 tablespoons of vanilla essence and 4 dates.

Directions

To start off with your recipe, first take a cup of almonds and soak these in 2 cups of water overnight. The next morning drain the water and pop into a blender, the almonds. The purpose of keeping the almonds overnight in water, is to help activate enzymes in it that will then be useful when making the milk.
Once you have your almonds in a blender, add to this 3 cups of drinking water, the de-seeded dates and vanilla essence. Blitz this mixture until it takes on a creamy, light brown color. Take a cheesecloth and tie it tightly around the mouth of a large dish before you pour your mixture through this to remove any bits left in the milk.
Squeeze it gently until all your milk has made it through to the other side without any leftover bits. Using an airtight jug, you can then transfer your milk into it and use it wherever you'd like. For more sweetness, you can add more dates the next time you make this at home and find alternative flavored essences to add to your milk mix.
Be sure to experiment with colors, flavors and smells that are all natural and fresh in nature while making almond milk at home. Have a healthy tomorrow.
