As the name suggests, alkaline water lies on the basic side of the pH scale, i.e. it is neither neutral nor acidic. The benefits are immeasurable by some believers, and it has been said that it is an excellent source for a good, consistent, and continued health.
On the other hand, some people say that the results are still uncertain and open for doubts. The alkalinity, the base level or the neutral level depends on where the water is coming from. Normal water is rated at 7 on the pH scale, which is neutral. The water is also known as ionized water and on the pH scale of 1 to 14, where 7 being neutral, it is rated at 8. The alkalinity varies from brand to brand, depending on how it is being produced, and the mechanism used to produce it.

Chemical Imbalances

Managing a proper chemical balance is the most important thing for a healthy life. If the acidity level goes up even a bit, it can cause severe health issues as the pH measurement of the fluids in our body affects every cell. It is a very delicate act to keep the balance of the acidic and alkaline level manageable. Our body is designed such that it can fight on its own to keep the balance.
In the course of keeping the balance, it might put stress on the other tissues, body systems, organs, etc. A low or imbalanced pH level can cause high acidity in the body, and this can create a lot of bodily dysfunctions. For example, if the pH level gets too much on the acidic side, we can face symptoms like loss of energy, tiredness, weight gain, and improper digestion.

Health Benefits

We need to hydrate our bodies sufficiently and hence should drink the water which is rich in minerals. The pH level of drinkable water should be between 9 and 10, and we should drink over 2 liters of water daily. Sometimes, food cravings are signs for thirst for water. Hence, make it a habit to drink at least 2-3 liters of water daily.
These benefits are to neutralize stored acids and toxins, and remove them from the body. Alkaline water that contains ionic minerals act as a conductor of electrochemical activity from cell to cell.
Some studies advise drinking alkaline-ionized water as it helps the body resist diseases and slows aging. Listed below are ways how a human body slows the aging process.
  • Increase in intracellular hydration
  • Replenishes essential minerals like calcium, potassium, magnesium, and sodium
  • Helps to maintain normal blood flow
  • Flushes out wastes and prevents it from recollecting in cells
  • Prevents free radicals from damaging the cells
Many foods that we consume have the ability to run our body in the acidity side of the pH scale, which can harm the body. What it does is to keep the chemical imbalances neutralized in the body. There are numerous claimed health benefits like reducing indigestion, reduction in heartburn, and better hydration between cells. Some studies suggest that it also helps in treating asthma among many other treatments.
Over the past few years, there have been talks about the quality of the water we drink everyday and its effects on our health. It is recommended that we consume over 2 liters of water each day. Many households rely on drinking tap water as their main source. Since the quality of tap water is not recommended by many health experts, millions of people have switched to bottled water, or are investing in improving the quality of water at home. But the prices of bottled water are constantly rising without being 100% sure about the quality of water.
To strike a balance and create a better body with proper functions, the benefits are numerous. One must consume the water because of its benefits mentioned above. Water is a very important factor in maintaining a proper acid-alkaline balance. Water amounts to 70% of our body, and it loses 2.5 liters of water everyday due to normal bodily functions. It is extremely important to replenish the supply of water, which is not only quality, but also quantity.
